For years (decades?), climate alarmist scientists have been claiming that the oceans were rising with "unprecedented" speed due to human-caused global warming. These scientists claim that because of all the melting of glaciers and ice sheets, due to human-caused warming, the sea levels are rising at an accelerated pace and will continue to so - up to a 20 foot rise by the end of the century is predicted. If this accelerated sea level rising is happening as claimed, then it should be evident across the world. Fortunately, the sea rise at Reykjavik, Iceland is averaging less than a foot per century. This is just but one example of ocean facts countering sea-rise alarmism hype - more to follow. (On average, recent satellite measurements put global ocean level increases at 3mm/year or 1 foot/century.)

Obama's proposed CO2 'Cap & Trade' U.S. program is estimated by his administration to be a total cost of $650 billion for consumers ("taxpayers") over the first 8 years. Based on previous Federal government incompetence at estimating total costs of new endeavors (see below list), one should multiply any Obama or Congressional estimate by at least 5x to be safe. So, what does that mean? The cost of Obama's 'Cap & Trade' consumer tax over next 8 years will probably exceed $3.25 trillion, or some $28,000+ per U.S. household. Here are some previous horrendously wrong cost estimates that are eye-opening, to say the least:
2009
(January) CBO estimated that the bailout TARP plan would cost taxpayers
$189 billion; instead, several weeks later the estimated cost was
raised to $356 billion, and will eventually be much more by end of 2009
1965 CBO estimated that Medicare Pt. A cost would be $9 billion by 1990; instead the cost was $66 billion in 1990
1965 CBO estimated that all Medicare cost would be $12 billion by 1990; instead the cost was $107 billion in 1990
1987 CBO estimated that subsidy for Medicade special hospitals would be $100 million by 1992; instead the cost was $11 billion in 1992
1988 CBO estimated that Medicade homecare cost would be $4 billion by 1983; instead the cost was $10 billion in 1983
2003 White House estimate of Iraq War cost would be $60 billion; instead the cost so far has exceeded $600 billion
As
the above information reveals (and reminds us), the Federal government
is absolutely terrible at cost estimates, especially for new
initiatives; and, the politicians always 'way' low ball the original
cost estimate.
To add to the misery of a huge Cap & Trade consumer tax looming for U.S. citizens, it should be remembered that this gigantic consumer-borne cost is expected to lower global temperatures, at most, by a mere 0.1 degree C (1/10th of a single degree) by the end of the century. That's it, 0.1 degree at a cost of $28,000+ from each household. Now do you understand? This is radical environmentalism, enhanced with the leftist Obanomics, and doing political business the same old way - sticking it to the consumer.

"The first of these studies indicates that "large species of branching Acropora corals dominated shallow reefs in the tropical western Atlantic for at least half a million years until the 1980s, when they declined dramatically." The second study indicates that throughout this long period of time, the earth experienced several glacial/interglacial cycles for which we have good proxy temperature data, and that the four interglacials that preceded the one in which we now live were all warmer than the current one -- and by an average of more than 2°C! Hence, the Acropora corals that have taken such a nosedive in health -- and actual existence -- over the past quarter century are clearly able to tolerate temperatures significantly in excess of those of the present (all else being equal), which current temperatures may also be less than temperatures experienced during the Holocene Climatic Optimum and the Medieval Warm Period of only a few and one thousand years ago, respectively......the study of Gardner et al. (2003a), who assessed the extent of decline in coral cover across the Caribbean via a meta-analysis of data obtained from a total of 263 sites described in 65 scientific studies. This effort revealed, in their words, "a massive region-wide decline of corals across the entire Caribbean basin, with the average hard coral cover on reefs being reduced by 80%, from about 50% to 10% cover, in three decades." However, they also report that "the rate of coral loss has slowed in the past decade compared to the 1980s," and they say "there is no convincing evidence yet that global stressors (e.g. temperature-induced bleaching and reduced rates of carbonation via enhanced levels of atmospheric CO2) are responsible for the overall pattern of these recent coral declines." Instead, they more logically lay the blame at the feet of "local factors originating both naturally (e.g. disease, storms, temperature stress, predation) and anthropogenically (e.g. over-fishing, sedimentation, eutrophication, habitat destruction)," which they say "are occurring at Caribbean-wide scales.""

IPCC climate models have failed miserably at predicting just about anything, including levels of CO2 and global temperature levels (see images below; click to enlarge). Why have these models failed so spectacularly? Here is possibly one of the best, short explanations of why these models are fundamentally flawed with their potential of being "right" less than 25% of the time.
It should be noted that this spectacular level of climate model incompetence is unprecedented (and, more and more scientists are coming forward to actually state that). Is now the time to unceremoniously cut all future funding for these wasteful "black holes" of climate research funding?

Probably not, but initial reports have described the virus as a "novel" combination of avian-pig-human genetic material, not seen before. When a national publication uses that type of wording, it sort of raises some red flags and some questions. Has a lunatic scientist gone off-the-rails and developed a super-flu? (Don't forget, it was only few years ago that someone with a background in science unleashed the anthrax attacks.)
Unfortunately, the "greens" who want to shut down civilization by eliminating CO2-based energy, have a public record of stating their desires in an extreme manner that may influence some less than stable scientists. For example, is it wise to allow a government official, who is a prominent global warming scientist, go around referring to coal trains as "death trains" when he obviously is using words to incite people? Did he incite the wrong scientist with inflammatory language?
Or, could comments like these, from prominent environmentalists who are leading the anti-CO2 effort, be inciting a lunatic scientist(s) to unleash a viral threat to humanity?
"We have become a plague upon ourselves and upon the Earth. It is
cosmically unlikely that the developed world will choose to end its
orgy of fossil energy consumption, and the Third World its suicidal
consumption of landscape. Until such time as Homo Sapiens should decide
to rejoin nature, some of us can only hope for the right virus to come
along.”
"If I were reincarnated, I would wish to be returned to Earth as a killer virus to lower human population levels."
"I suspect that eradicating smallpox was wrong. It played an important part in balancing ecosystems."
“A total population of 250-300 million people, a 95% decline from present levels, would be ideal.”
"We have wished, we ecofreaks, for a disaster or for a social change to come and bomb us into Stone Age, where we might live like Indians in our valley, with our localism, our appropriate technology, our gardens, our homemade religion—guilt-free at last!"
"We, in the green movement, aspire to a cultural model in which killing a forest will be considered more contemptible and more criminal than the sale of 6-year-old children to Asian brothels."
“Isn't the only hope for the planet that the industrialized civilizations collapse? Isn't it our responsibility to bring that about?”

Since many of Gore's claims about global warming have been proven to be nothing more than absurd hype, and in some cases, outright scientifically wrong, it's extremely troubling that venerable investment firms would be gathering monies from individuals and institutions based on Gore's global warming misrepresentations. These investment firms have the fiduciary responsibility to invest in opportunities of prudent nature, certainly not those based on celebrity hucksterism, climate science fiction and scaremongering. Is it investment fraud if one is attracting investor monies by hyping worst case scenarios that appear to create a future investment opportunity?
When these investment monies are lost for their clients, it will be an ugly day in court if the investment firms' defense is..."well, Al Gore said it would happen." That defense ain't going to work when a UK High Court judge has already found that Gore's claims are "politically partisan and thus not an impartial scientific analysis of climate change."
For potential investors, beware! Do you really want your money in the hands of a Bernie Madoff-type of money manager? Before investing in one of these global warming, Gore influenced money-making "opportunities," you might want to ask these questions.

As multiple politicians, celebrities and reporters believe that a reduction of U.S. CO2 emissions would have some "large" impact on global temperatures, and would only be a trivial cost to Americans, we decided to do some simple calculations to reveal what those impacts would be. Using known CO2 science and emission levels, the simple calculations show that a zero U.S. CO2 emissions would barely put a dent in global temperatures, yet it would be stupendously expensive for all Americans to create that tiny dent. And, even if we sacrificed our 'treasure' and lifestyle for a grand, global, politically correct image, CO2 emissions growth from China and India will reverse that tiny dent in a mere 6+ years.

In addition, the recent dramatic growth of Arctic ice is revealing the foolishness and fiction-hype of alarmist claims that "all the ice is melting." See chart below of Arctic ice being 683,000 sq. kilometers in size over the average. H/T: Watts Up With That
