Read here. Western companies, such as Apple, have moved their manufacturing to China for several reasons: low wages, low electricity prices, and low environmental enforcement. It benefits people like Al Gore and Steve Jobs but for the rest of the world,....
it basically sucks, big time..."The catch is that China has become not just the world's manufacturer but its despoiler, on a scale as monumental as its economic expansion."
Apple went out of its way to publicly defect from the U.S. Chamber of Commerce over a non-pollutant trace gas called CO2, yet it supports manufacturing in China, the world's most dangerous air and water polluter - pollution that is truly harming every world citizen. And, despite the CO2 public relations marketing gimmick of quitting the CoC, Apple chooses to side with a country that is the largest emitter of CO2.
Next time you use your iPod, iPhone or iMac, just remember you are supporting the largest polluter in the world, and also favoring a corporation that refuses to conduct their business in their home country that demands fair wages, fair labor practices and enforces clean environmental standards.
