Read here. Using food crops to power transportation has to be one of the most brain-dead energy policies ever conceived. We have written about this subject before as it is causing all sorts of serious problems that would be best solved by ceasing all subsidization of biofuel production, immediately.

the Guardian, published an article about how the EU and U.S. push for biofuels is harming a large segment of the world's populations. If the Guardian is finally writing about this, how long before we see a George Clooney movie exposing the seamy, corrupt and cruel side of this government idiocy?
"EU companies have taken millions of acres of land out of food production in Africa, central America and Asia to grow biofuels for transport, according to development campaigners. The consequences of European biofuel targets, said the report by ActionAid, could be up to 100 million more hungry people, increased food prices and landlessness....The report says the 2008 decision by EU countries to obtain 10% of all transport fuels from biofuels by 2020 is proving disastrous for poor countries....If all global biofuel government targets are met, says ActionAid, food prices could rise by up to an additional 76% by 2020 with an extra 600 million extra people going hungry...."

Why are these policies still favored by the political elites despite the horrendous, murderous impact on the impoverished and the environment? The simple answer is greed and political "bribes." Both large agricultural firms and wealthy, leftist political donors, such as the likes of Gore and Soros, need the huge subsidies to make their biofuel investments profitable. It's all about the money, with no concern about the human and environmental consequences.
