Note for newbies: Some of the above links go to a web page with the data, while other links automatically download the dataset file when the link is clicked. For the HadCrut, HadSST, HadCET and CRUT files, add a ".dat" after the filename when downloading - that will allow the file to be opened in Excel. For most of the temperature datasets, the first column is date infomration (often the 2nd column also) and the very next column after the date information is the temperature anomaly.
