Local Japanese milk and spinach food products were found to be contaminated by radioactive iodine which has only an 8-day half life. Thyroids of children are at risk from this type of contamination, which can easily be countered by the ingestion of stable iodine pills and tablets.
Progress continues to re-connect electrical power to the nuclear plants at the complex. Reactors and spent fuel storage ponds continue to be cooled using non-conventional means.
