Global Warming and Earthquakes: Satellite Measurements Indicate Insignificant Warming Over Last 30 Years

A year after the huge Japanese earthquake and tsunami, the AGW alarmists are suggesting man-made global warming and earthquakes are linked - first question: what global warming?

Read here. As the adjacent chart shows, any global warming that has occurred over the last 30 years has been insignificant (an absolute 9/100's of a degree insignificant - basically "zero"). And over the last 10 years, a definite cooling has taken place, not global warming, despite the obvious increase of CO2 levels from human emissions.

The suggestion that man-made global warming and earthquakes are scientifically linked is meritless due to lack of the recent "warming" empirical evidence.

As an aside, this chart is an updated version of one we did right after last year's earthquake/tsunami event. Yesterday, we received an email from a self identified man-of-the-cloth who admitted to being confused about global warming and asked us to respond to an accusation made by a green-pagan-fantasy oriented site (Yo padre, you're seriously confused, and not just about the AGW theory).

Scroll down the right side of the pagan's site and you'll find last year's 'C3' chart displayed - click on on it to read the "accusation." [Note: The "accusation" was made over a year ago.]

The proprietor of the pagan site stated that last year's chart was an accurate representation of the data but that it was "cherry-picked" - paraphrasing John McEnroe, "cherry picked," you cannot be serious?

• We used the latest data available at the time (February 2011 satellite data)
• We plotted six different time periods (some exhibiting cooling, others warming)
• We revealed to our readers the absolute temperature change of anomalies for short, medium and long-term spans, which alarmists always fail to do

If this is "cherry-picking" in the padre's mind then God help him, so to speak.

Now, if the good padre has an open and inquisitive mind that actually goes beyond an infatuation with paganism and fantasy, he should visit the following four 'C3' pages, which represent the antithesis of cherry picking.

Literally, a 'C3' cornucopia of empirical climate science data displayed that will help the padre find answers to the never-ending climate spiritual needs of his flock:

• Are modern global warming temperatures accelerating?

Conclusion: The empirical evidence does not support a link between man-made global warming and earthquakes; relying on a green-pagan site for an objective, comprehensive analysis of climate data is highly questionable, but in the case of the "Snufkin" site, at least very entertaining, interesting and excellent writing is provided.

Global Warming & Volcanoes: Latest Peer-Reviewed Science Confirms There Is No Evidence That AGW Causes Volcanoes

As the global warming alarmists have become ever more desperate, due to their failed arguments, every single catastrophe that is associated with a tectonic plate event they now blame on global warming. Besides earthquakes and resultant tsunamis, now its volcanoes that are being caused by excess CO2, supposedly.

So, does global warming really cause volcanic eruptions? Here's what a recent peer-reviewed study found:

"The sensitivity of volcanoes to small changes in ice thickness or to recession of small glaciers on their flanks is unknown.....Broader feedbacks between volcanism and climate change remain poorly understood.....Uncertainty about the time scale of volcanic responses to ice unloading.....Lack of data on how past changes in ice thickness have affected the style of volcanic eruptions and associated hazards.....Poor constraint on how ice bodies on volcanoes will respond to twenty-first century climate change" [Hugh Tuffen 2010: Philosophical Transaction of the Royal Society]

This study by a top volcanologist indicates that science really has no idea if warming causes eruptions. But clearly, this scientist lays out the facts why he needs a lot more research funds/grants so as to find answers to the known unknowns of "AGW volcanic" activity.

Global Warming Extremists Claim Melting Ice Sheets Cause Volcano Eruptions - Scientists Determine That's Bogus Speculation

Read here. Recently, global warming alarmists (the climate "hystericals") have speculated that melting polar ice sheets will cause more volcano eruptions. New research, a peer-reviewed study, was conducted to investigate the alarmist claims. The study's result was a confirmation that scientists have no idea whether the wild alarmist predictions of warming-induced volcano eruptions has any basis in reality.

"At the conclusion of his review and analysis, Tuffen finds that "ice unloading may encourage more explosive eruptions," but that "melting of ice and snow may decrease the likelihood and magnitude of meltwater floods." On the other hand, he says there is (1) "uncertainty about the time scale of volcanic responses to ice unloading," (2) "poor constraint on how ice bodies on volcanoes will respond to twenty-first century climate change," (3) "lack of data on how past changes in ice thickness have affected the style of volcanic eruptions and associated hazards," and that (4) "the sensitivity of volcanoes to small changes in ice thickness or to recession of small glaciers on their flanks is unknown," (5) "it is not known how localized ice withdrawal from stratovolcanoes [tall, conical volcanoes with many layers (strata) of hardened lava, tephra, and volcanic ash] will affect shallow crustal magma storage and eruption," and (6) "broader feedbacks between volcanism and climate change remain poorly understood.""
